Forgetful
By Tsu Chan

James is always forgetting tools at farms. The other day, he forgot some forceps, and the time before that, he left one of his syringes.

Worse than that, he forgets things. More important things than tools, Tristan thinks, but then again, who is he to judge. It is not him who James glances at in shy confusion and wonders What did we do last night? It isn’t him who James forgets at the most inopportune moments before remembering that Oh! Siegfried might know how to do this one! It isn’t him even when James is annoyed at Siegfried and can’t handle any more exasperation and drags Tristan out for a drink at the pub to grin and laugh off the annoyance with ease enough so he can look Siegfried in the eye later and pretend he was never mad to begin with.

But then, Tristan thinks, maybe it isn’t being forgotten that is so bad.

Maybe the worst thing is not having even the chance of being forgotten.
