I went through a phase about six months ago where I reread all of the early Redwall books (also known as the non-sucky ones; seriously, Pearls of Lutra?  What was up with that?) and then had to draw my two favorites (Mariel and Dandin, from Mariel of Redwall and The Bellmaker).  I never liked the illustrations in the books; the artists always tried to make the characters look like real mice and badgers and hares and whatever, which is stupid, because have you ever actually seen a mouse?  They've got these little teeny tiny front legs, they could never pick up a sword!  And they could never do battle with, say, a wildcat; the proportions are entirely too ridiculous.  I always saw the characters as being far more anthropomorphized, so I drew Dandin as such.  With little outfits!  He's so hot.  You know, for a mouse.  Although I still can't figure out how to do any view except profile for animals.  This is a problem that has plagued me since...oh, the development of the ability to hold a crayon.

There's some Mariel sketches in my sketchbook too.  Someday when I stop being lazy (ha!) I'll scan 'em.

Please ignore the stupid J in the bottom righthand corner; I got this idiotic journal for Christmas that was obviously purchased at Claire's and intended for thirteen-year-olds to write about how much they love Aaron Carter.  It's, like, purple with lavender pages and a J on every page and on the cover.  With rhinestones.  It's so heinous, but it's useful for sketching on the go because the pages are unlined.

Medium: Ballpoint pen, idiot Claire's journal
